The brief
Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

@Mercer build a Dark Roast Espresso Coffee Beans launch that feels like our brand. Give me a custom storefront with proper product photography, an editorial coffee story and a product page people can buy from. Use the new AETHEL campaign, warm ivory and espresso tones, and clear, confident typography.

Build a real DTC offer ladder: one bag at $32.95, two at $56.02 with 15% savings, and three at $74.14 with 25% savings. Show compare-at totals, per-bag value and the gifts each pack unlocks. Make the selected offer obvious and keep the purchase easy on mobile.

We have product-page, advertorial and listicle traffic. Check their actual destinations. A beautiful new PDP does not help if an old article still sends buyers to the retired page.

Agent MercerAPP

I’m building the customer experience around the product: a photographic gallery, clear bundle choices, a progressive gift unlock, useful tasting and brewing details, and a repeated purchase CTA. The design follows your brand brief; the page structure is custom.

The working page keeps espresso one-time and carries the selected pack straight into checkout. Catalog mapping and entry-route review stay in their own views.

The mapping preview will show paid units separately from the scoop and canister, so “two bags” cannot accidentally mean one paid bag plus a gift.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Exactly. First orders get a scoop with every pack; two or three bags also unlock the storage canister. The three-bag pack adds free US standard shipping. Show the unlocks before the CTA. A returning subscriber can buy espresso separately, but that must not change their subscription or give them another welcome gift. Show the two-bag and returning-customer cases before we approve it.

Refine the work
Agent MercerAPP

Merchandising now lets you inspect each pack against first-order and returning-customer eligibility. Two bags remain two paid units at $56.02, saving $9.88 against $65.90. The first order adds a $0 scoop and canister; the returning case adds no welcome gifts. Three bags total $74.14 with $24.71 savings and free US standard shipping. All packs stay one-time, with existing subscription terms untouched.

A multi-bag entry also skips the later two-bag stock-up offer.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Now check the listicle and the alternate landing page. One has an old destination in a custom content block. The other variant is still a draft. Do not enable a 50/50 split just because the main page is ready, and do not rewrite the live homepage while fixing those links.

Agent MercerAPP

Launch review separates those failures. The outdated listicle stops at the retired destination; its CTA needs the current route, followed by another quantity check. The unpublished variant stays out of traffic until its destination and checkout mapping are ready.

The working product CTA and advertorial path are separate cases. One passing path does not make the others ready.

Ready for review
Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Keep the useful detail in the review, but the page itself should still feel like a premium coffee brand. Make sure the campaign photos, visible price and selected pack survive on mobile. Check the real footer too—our custom sections have hidden menu links before.

Agent MercerAPP

The customer page stays focused on the product and purchase. From Merchandising, a compatible first-order pack opens that same selection on the page, then carries it into checkout. The returning-customer case remains separate so it cannot inherit the preview’s first-order gift.

The launch checklist retains rendered policy and Manage subscription links, every quantity and both variant destinations.

Agent MercerAPP

Draft ready ✅ The page, paid/gift mapping and launch routes can be reviewed independently. The original espresso order stays one-time; gifts never recur; multi-bag orders skip the stock-up. Stale links and unpublished targets remain visible decisions before traffic moves.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST CUP
A few good answers.
Is this whole bean or ground coffee?

Whole beans. Every bag contains 340 g of Dark Roast Espresso Coffee Beans. Grind them for your machine or preferred brewing method.

How do the bundle savings work?

One bag is $32.95. Two bags are $56.02, saving $9.88 against two individual bags. Three bags are $74.14, saving $24.71 against three individual bags. Prices are rounded to the nearest cent; no code is needed.

Which gifts will I receive?

Your first order of any bundle includes one coffee scoop. Choose two or three bags and we add one storage canister. Every one-time three-bag bundle also includes free US standard shipping. Gifts are limited to one of each per eligible order and do not repeat on subscription renewals.

Will this start a subscription?

No. These bundles are one-time purchases. A separate subscription is only added if you explicitly choose one later; it does not change this order.

What about shipping and tax?

Every one-time three-bag bundle includes US standard shipping. Other shipping and any applicable tax are calculated at checkout before payment.

Do I need an espresso machine?

No. Espresso describes the roast style here. You can grind these beans for a moka pot, French press or filter brewer, too. Choose the grind and recipe that suit your equipment.

In another merchant exchange, Mercer reviews the last seven days and identifies what deserves attention next.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

@Mercer audit our upsells for the last seven days. How are take rate, revenue per order and recurring revenue doing? What should we change?

MercerAGENT

Extra revenue per order is $4.19, up from $3.18. Total upsell revenue fell because orders dropped from 524 to 310. The report records an 11.3% take rate.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Where would you start with the offers themselves?

MercerAGENT

Two places. None of the 25 recent two-pack buyers accepted after the price change. And the downsell says shipping is the only charge even though the offer renews monthly.

More context

The reviewed downsell showed $9.99 initially and $29.99 per month on renewal. Correcting that message and investigating the two-pack segment are recommendations, not completed changes.

@Mercer some older subscriptions aren’t billing. Is this failed payments, or did something break when we changed the offers?

MercerAGENT

The old offer options were deleted and replaced. Existing subscriptions still reference those deleted options, and some renewals are already overdue.

Can we add those options back and let the retries run?

Recreating an option gives it a new ID. The subscriptions would still point to the old one, so adding the name back does not repair the reference.

Reconnect subscriptions to valid options, keep existing prices, and prevent free gifts from repeating on renewals.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Why aren’t the retry settings picking up the overdue renewals?

MercerAGENT

These renewals never produced failed charges. Nothing entered the retry queue, so changing retries will not resolve this break.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Keep the same price as before, and make sure renewals ship only the paid items. The free gifts from the original offer should not repeat.

MercerAGENT

I’ll check each subscription’s current price and what ships on renewal before moving it to the replacement option. The repair will keep the original price and paid-item quantity.

THE WORK
SUBSCRIPTIONS / REPAIR PLAN

Reconnect the renewal.
Keep the agreed price.

A replacement option needs an explicit mapping from the old reference.

New option ≠ old ID

Recreating the offer option does not automatically reconnect existing subscriptions.

  1. Map to the replacement option

Reconnect the subscriptions to the new product option.

  2. Preserve the renewal terms

Keep the current price and paid-item quantity. Do not repeat free gifts.

  3. Schedule overdue billing separately

Plan the overdue renewals independently of failed-payment retries.

Approved by the merchant

The merchant confirmed unchanged prices and paid-item-only fulfillment before Mercer reported starting the migration.

Yes, proceed at the same prices. Only the paid items should ship on renewal, with no free gifts.

MercerAGENT

I’m checking the current prices and renewal items, then moving the subscriptions to the replacement option.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Has the change been taken care of?

MercerAGENT

The main migration is complete at the same prices. Only paid items will ship, with no free gifts. The overdue renewals are scheduled to bill tomorrow.

MercerAGENT

Some subscriptions in retry and others missing a shipping method still need attention. The team will follow up on those exceptions.

Draft sequence
THE CONVERSATIONIn SlackSee the work ↓

An earlier agent workflow begins with an abandoned-checkout sequence and a specific customer-exclusion request.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

I made our abandoned-checkout emails in Claude. Can you get them working in the store? Exclude anyone who bought in the last 13 days.

Commerce agentAGENT

I’ll check the recovery timing, the purchase conditions and the sender. The draft sequence is 4, 24 and 72 hours after abandonment.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Can the exclusion use only purchases from those last 13 days?

Commerce agentAGENT

The current purchase filter counts all-time orders. It cannot express that rolling 13-day rule yet; using it would also exclude older buyers. The sequence stays in draft while we resolve that condition.

The same merchant shares the HTML-and-images package. The agent checks what will actually render and what the offer promises.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Here’s the ZIP. The product images are in the folder.

Commerce agentAGENT

I found one HTML template and two images. The images need hosted URLs, and the product-image field needs the supported variable.

More context

The template uses item.image rather than item.image_url. It also contains an unsupported store.processing_time field. Local image paths will not load for email recipients.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

What else needs checking before this can send?

Commerce agentAGENT

The email promises Buy 2, Get 1 Free, but the recovery draft has no incentive configured. Is that offer already applied to the carts the flow will target?

Commerce agentAGENT

The draft remains inactive while the promotion, purchase condition and sender verification are resolved. The inspected package is not a completed import or an activated campaign.

A separate merchant’s earlier workflow shows the sender setup reaching verified status. It is not the completion of the previous email draft.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

The sender field is still blank. Can you set up our branded sender?

Commerce agentAGENT

I need the sender address and access to the domain’s DNS settings so I can add the authentication records.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

I’ve shared the address and sent the domain-access invitation.

Commerce agentAGENT

I’ve accepted the invitation and added the four records, preserving the records used by Shopify and Microsoft 365. Public DNS now matches, but the sending provider is still showing verification as pending.

Merchant, name hiddenMerchant

Can you try entering the records manually? The verification still hasn’t completed.

Commerce agentAGENT

All four records are now verified. The branded sender is active.
